Miami, Florida – Omega World News
During a hearing held this morning at the US Federal Court, United States District Court in Miami, Florida, Judge Darrin P. Gayles rejected all arguments of the lawyers of Parnell Duverger, the website owner Omega World News . The latter, former economics professor in Florida, was convicted of defamation by Judge Gayles in a judgment after publishing an article accusing Attorney Salim Succar of being an arms dealer for the former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe. Despite the Lawyers of the firm Hunton & Williams LLP pleading the innocence of Mr. Duverger, and asking today that Judge Gayles reconsiders that defamation judgment in American courts against Duverger. However, the judge upheld his judgment: Omega World News and Duverger are indeed guilty of defamation against Mr. Salim Succar. On December 14, there will be a hearing to determine the amount of damages to which Attorney Succar is entitled. Contrary to the request of the lawyers of Hunton & Williams, neither Arnel Belizaire nor Newton Saint-Juste will be invited to testify in next Monday’s hearing on this case. Their arguments were also rejected by the judge.
